Aurora Harris

Biography: Aurora Harris is a Detroit, Michigan based award winning published poet; water rights activist and Co-founder of We The People of Detroit ; advocate for students with special needs; Coordinating Committee Member of Detroit Independent Freedom Schools; President of the Michigan Chapter of the Filipino American National Historical Society; and Lecturer ll in Literature, Philosophy, and Arts, and, African and African American Studies. Her awards include the 2015 “Unsung Heroes” Award- Michigan and Detroit National Lawyers Guild, 2014 Howard Zinn Lifetime Achievement Award- Peace and Justice Studies Association, and the 2012 PEN-Oakland Josephine Miles Excellence in Literature Award for her book of poetry, Solitude of Five Black Moons.
